In CS:GO aiming and weapon control is important to make precise shots. For this it’s important to know the spray pattern and recoil of weapons. On this page, I explain the spray pattern and recoil for each weapon.
What is CS:GO Weapon Spray?
Spray patterns define where bullets fly to, if you are shooting in CS:GO. If you are shooting continously with a weapon (holding the left mouse button), the bullets start to hit the exact middle or your crosshair and the longer you shoot the more bullets miss the exact middle. Spray patterns are fixed in CS:GO and have no random factor, they are always the same.
What is CS:GO Weapon Recoil?
Recoil in CS:GO defines how your crosshair moves away from the targeted area when shooting. To get the recoil under control players need to learn recoil compensation. For each weapon, the spray and recoil behave differently but in most cases, it moves up and from side to side. Recoil can be inaccurate and has a random factor of hitting. Recoil compensation describes the line you have to move the cursor to compensate the effects perfectly, you can find these for each weapon below.
Another factor of the recoil is the visual feedback that a player gets when shooting. The screen and the weapon shake when shooting. This can give a positive factor on behavior, but can also be misleading. Therefore pro players adjust their settings.

The spray and recoil compensation have to be mastered if you want to get a high rank in CS:GO. View all ranks here. Every professional Counterstrike player is adjusting the crosshair and the viewmodel to get more control onto the spray and recoil of weapons.

How do you Control Spray in CS GO?
To get more spray control in CS:GO, it’s essential to check the spray pattern of a weapon. As a beginner or silver player, you don’t have to care about it, you need to train your basic aiming first. But as an experienced player, it’s mandatory to view the weapon spray pattern.
At first, define 2-3 weapons that you use very often and try to focus on these weapons. For me, it’s the M4A4-S, the AK-47, and the P90. Now watch the spray pattern image below for your 3 favorite weapons. Join a server and shoot onto a wall to see the spray pattern yourself. Do it 3-4 times and check the difference between the bullet spray. Now do it again, and try to move the cursor into the opposite direction of the spray pattern. If the spray would go up after 0.5 seconds, it’s your goal to move it slightly down to compensate that.
After going up it can move to the left or ride side, but it’s always the same for a specific weapon.
Each weapon has a different spray pattern and recoil behavior. I have listed all of these below.
Keep in mind, that single shots are much more precise and often the better option, but in some situations of a 1v1 skirmish or if a full team rushes you, there is no other option than holding the left mouse button. For these situations, it’s important to know the spray pattern, only like that you will be able to make quad kills or an ace in CS:GO! 😉
What is the CS:GO AK-47 Spray Pattern?
As you can see, the AK-47 starts to move up fast and then turns to the right. To compensate this behaviour, watch the right animation: you need to move your cursor down when shooting, then move to the left and then back to the middle! Try it out! 🙂
